Holdup By Physician Allows Cancer To Spread In Woman In Her 20s

Let’s look at an example of a situation that never should have happened the way it did.  Sadly, some physicians often think that individuals in the twenties do not have colon cancer.  In this case, a woman in her 20s on numerous instances told her physician for five years that she had.  Yet, her doctor continuously assured her that she merely had hemorrhoids.  This is the all too frequently the fall back diagnosis delivered by these physicians – notwithstanding that they fail to do the tests necessary to determine the actual reason for the bleeding.  By the time the doctor finally sent her for a sigmoidoscopy she was 29 years old and now had stage four colon cancer.  By  this point the percentage of individuals who continue to be alive for at least 4 years is less than 10%.

She chose to battle the cancer aggresively because she wished to live for her husband and her young child.  She underwent surgery to take off the cancer.  She then had chemotherapy in an effort to decrease the size of the tumor in her liver (the site of the metastasis)  and then an additional surgery to remove that tumor once it shrunk.  She the went through radiation treatment in her pelvic area.  A short time later the cancer spread to her lungs.  Her surgeon was able to take off a tumor from one of the lungs and then she received even more chemotherapy to shrink the size of the tumor in the other lung.  When the chemotherapy was finished the surgeon then took out the cancer from the second lung.

This young woman found herself with colon cancer metastasis and needed to go through chemotherapy that made her extremely sick and then went through early menopause resulting from her treatment (keeping her from ever having any more children) – all this totally avoidable.  All due to the delay caused by her doctor.

The above is not medical or legal advice. Consult a physician without delay in case you believe you have indications of cancer or any other health issue. Seek the advice of a medical negligence lawyer in the event you think your physician ignored your symptoms or in some way delayed the detection of your cancer.
